Create and Configure an Access Control List

This article describes how to Filter the URLs and Applications that you don't see any obstacles to accessing or that you don't want to be accessed through your network.

Timus uses ACLs to control traffic flow by allowing or denying it.

Through the access rule feature, you can customize your firewall rules by setting various parameters and utilizing Access Control Lists to limit access to specific areas of your network. Timus uses categorizing Applications and URLs to filter them in one step with machine learning.

  • Search any URL or application,

  • View a URL or application in any category and remove it from that category by using the search bar on the Access Control List page of Timus Manager.

Suppose the URL or the application is not included in any category. In that case, you can add it to a category on the platform or create your category in addition to the existing categories on the platform.

You can make custom listings by using the filters under Type, Entry, Category, and State components.

This allows you to create personalized views of your data, making it easier to find and analyze the information that matters most to you.

For example, to add Twitter web address and app to categories: follow these steps:

  1. Go to Timus Manager > Rules > Access Control List page.

  2. Select the URL option from the search bar on the page that opens.

  3. Type Twitter web address in the search bar and click Lookup.

When you perform a search, the platform will inform you if the Twitter web address is found in a category. You can then choose to manage it accordingly.

If Twitter's web address is not found in the database, the system displays the "Not found in our database. Edit" message, giving you the option to add the URL to the database and take appropriate action.

  1. Click Manage to filter this URL by adding it to the database.

  2. Choose a category from the drop-down list. For example, if you want to prevent Twitter from being accessed through your company network during weekdays and working hours, add the URL of this social media channel to the Dating or Sexuality- Nudity category since the working mode of these categories in the list is marked as Blocked.

  3. Click Confirm and you will have created a web filter for Twitter's URL.

If the mentioned application is in a category, you will receive the “Found in X” notification,

  1. In case you want to add this app to other categories, click Edit.

  2. Choose a category from the drop-down list and click Confirm.

Likewise, to block the Twitter application,

  1. Select Application from the search bar.

  2. If you display the “Not found in our database / Edit” notification on the screen again, choose a category from the drop-down list,

  3. Click Confirm.

To create a custom category to include the URL and the app,

  1. Click the Edit Categories button in the upper-right corner of the page.

  2. Enter a name for the category and click Confirm.

Once you have created your custom category, it will appear at the bottom of the pop-up every time you click the Edit Categories button.

To Edit or Delete your custom category, simply click on the ellipsis icon located to the right of the category name in this section.

Moving forward, it is possible to include any URL or application of your choice in your personalized category.
